Better Balance, stronger bones
An increasing body of research has shown the importance of exercise for balance and bone health. While all forms of exercise have their benefits, some are more effective in these areas than other.
To improve balance, exercises that improve leg strength play a significant role.
Exercises that challenge your balance - and this will, of course, depend on your current level - have been shown to be effective. These include actions that you do on one leg (one leg stand, one leg squat, for example).
The role of resistance, or strength training, in keeping bones healthy and combating osteoporosis is also supported by research.
While exercise can be effective in these two areas, it is also important to check with your doctor about other health/medical issues that can affect them. Medications, vision problems, neurological issues and other factors can affect your balance, for example.
